My Web Design Projects Welcome!

My Summer Project

My Summer Project

This was the very first project our class had tackled. The goal was to describe our summers through weekly entries. At this point, elements such as the paragraph and the heading elements were still very foreign to us. We didn't understand why they were necessary, but we used them anyway. We later went back on to the website after a few months to add a yellow background.

Starbuzz Project

Starbuzz Project

After the first project, we were instructed to design a page for a coffehouse. The page first consisted of a paragraph element with heading elements to signify the types of drinks offered in the coffeehouse. It then evolved to the "Starbuzz" project, a fully-fledged coffeehouse website. The Starbuzz phase of the website first began as a menu contained in a border, with the entire website under a brown background. We added a second page that led to the objective of the coffeehouse, which was to sell coffee. After a few months, we went back and added a ton of content, including an award and a coupon ticket.

Lounge Project

Lounge Project

Just like the Starbuzz project, the "Lounge" project began as a simple website with little text. Eventually, we were instructed to add separate pages; one for directions to the so-called, "Lounge," and one to house a detailed menu of the elixirs sold by the Lounge. The main page was then modified to contain information about this establishment. After a few months of mastering the basics and practicing complex HTML concepts, we went back to the Lounge project to add more information to the main page, including a "Weekly Elixirs" box.

Bands Project

Bands Project

The main distinction between this project and the previous ones is that we did not have our hands held. The other projects had strict guidance, whereas we only had a rubric to follow for the "Bands" project. The objective of the website was to pick our top five favorite bands and research them. We had to look for specific information such as the bands' top five albums, songs, etc. The biggest element used in this project was the "nav" element, which allowed for the navigation bar. This new element was very complicating as it was our first time utilizing it, but we managed.

The bands/artists I chose were: Queen, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Elton John, and the Bee Gees.

Journal Project

Journal Project

Just like the Bands project, we had no guidance here. It was accepted that we were on our own. The project objective was to pick a country we would like to visit for three days and compose a story that would take place during that time. The navigation menu was still a new concept during the time of this project, so many of us struggled to implement it into our code. The navigation menu was to be used to assign each day to different pages for all the content. Although the project was a pain in the gluteus maximus, it was still pretty fun.

I chose Chile for the country I'd like to visit (even though it's my home country and I had visited it many times already. c: ).

HTML5 Layout

HTML5 Layout Project

Probably one of our most important projects; the goal was to fully utilize but also understand the width of 960px and floating elements. We were asked to apply a page width of 960px, and then position boxes on said page to fit the width by floating them. It was an overall simple project, but understanding the concepts behind applying a 960 width and floating elements took a while.

Thumbnails Project

Thumbnails Project

One of our last projects, we were asked to pick any topic (such as video games), pick three subtopics under the chosen topic, and finally describe three subtopics for the subtopics. The objective of the website was to not only post up this content, but also design the website utilizing a "960 grid." We had to apply the concepts we learned regarding the 960 page width, but use a grid tailored to the specific width to position images in three columns. It wasn't a tough project, but it was time-consuming.

The topic I chose was "Famous Composers," where the three composers(subtopics) were Frédéric Chopin, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Johann Sebastian Bach.

WordPress Project

WordPress Project

Our final project: the WordPress Project. We were introduced to WordPress, a website dedicated to making web designing convenient and accessible for everyone. It first started off as blog site, but then evolved to a web-hosting service. WordPress still provides users free blog sites/domains for their personal use, but now they allow users to create websites by code. We were tasked to create our own WordPress blog using the themes and templates WordPress provided and post four blog entries on any topic(s). If you're curious as to what I posted, then check out my WordPress!
